For some reason, I seem to recall a P-40 showing up at Oshkosh years ago in these colors:

For the life of me I can't remember when, nor do I have a photo of it.
Does anyone else remember this?
Can anyone provide a photo?
Have I finally, totally lost my mind?

Don't recall a P-40 ever painted in those markings.
BTW Col Ben Preson's a/c in Panama. Preston downed 4 MIGs in Korea.

P-40N scheme

Supposedly the scheme is for ac #44-7071 whilst at 13FG and was flown by Maj Ben Preston. Only ever seen one photo of it on page 43 of “Curtiss P-40 in Action”.

Not seen anything else on this one apart from the single pic

Regards

I don't have a photo, but when Bob Byrne first finished the restoration of the now Evergreen airplane, it was painted this way. I think it did make it to OSH that way, as I know I saw it in that scheme.

Many thanks, Mr. Savage! My sanity has been restored (well, at least for another week or so).

I do remember falling in love with the scheme as another refreshing change from shark's teeth. Perhaps someone can locate and post a photo of her in those colors as well.

I love the P-40, all of them. If I was to own one, I would have a tough time not putting a shark's mouth on it at least for a while. The P-40 just looks like it was meant to wear that scheme.
