Again, as this is about fun rather than getting silly, I can't see any problem in you picking 'the best L bird shot' from the competition's entries while excluding any of your own for your own prize. It would be rather obvious if you award it to yourself, and we'll point it out if you miss it. (Note that all winners will be announced...)
Of course your L bird shots would still be in line for any other prizes...

It's a neat idea Ryan, but it could be just a bit difficult to manage as you've got to provide/link a photo that's not yours that's not in the competition.
How about best recreation of a period effect?

No problemo. Doesn't matter when the pic was taken, it just needs to be a warbird (see earlier definition) NOT a then current service aircraft.
If someone wants to award a prize for the 'best pre 19xx' shot, they're welcome.

It's up to the prize sponsor - simple. He or she decides which is 'the best', and that includes setting the limits of what's included. Again, if there's ONE competition to enter, there's no argument about anything being in the right category or not. Scott also arbitrates in the event of issue/s.
