I guess it's only fair that I can't win my own prize, but I'd certainly compete for the other categories with an L-bird shot.
As far as the L-birds question - I'd be willing to do a separate category for both - one for US and one for foreign.
Again, as this is about fun rather than getting silly, I can't see any problem in you picking 'the best L bird shot' from the competition's entries while excluding any of your own for your own prize. It would be rather obvious if you award it to yourself, and we'll point it out if you miss it. (Note that all winners will be announced...)
Of course your L bird shots would still be in line for any other prizes...

I'd also consider (interest, folks? I've got a book in mind...) doing a different category with a different prize for best reenacted aircraft scene (ie. not the kissing sailor and it could be airborne OR on the ground) from a WWII photo - markings and aircraft details could differ - and you'd have to post a copy of the WWII picture as well. On second thought maybe someone else should co-sponsor it... 'cause I have a few ideas.

If not, I'll sponsor it.
It's a neat idea Ryan, but it could be just a bit difficult to manage as you've got to provide/link a photo that's not yours that's not in the competition.
How about best recreation of a period effect?

First, I agree about current vs. from the old catalogues....however, perhaps that is a category to be determined. Say, someone finally decides to go through all those old slides or negatives from the 60s or 70s and find a treasure trove. Should they be excluded because they waited too long to include them in the competition? Specifically if they are good, and deserving of a real comparison to recent pictures?
No problemo. Doesn't matter when the pic was taken, it just needs to be a warbird (see earlier definition) NOT a then current service aircraft.
If someone wants to award a prize for the 'best pre 19xx' shot, they're welcome.

My next question comes in the form of category. Let's eval the above post where L birds get looked at....how do you define the category? What if I have the most incredible Navion shot...Does that count?
It's up to the prize sponsor - simple. He or she decides which is 'the best', and that includes setting the limits of what's included. Again, if there's ONE competition to enter, there's no argument about anything being in the right category or not. Scott also arbitrates in the event of issue/s.

Lastly, we are very lucky to have a bunch of people who freely post "Their" pictures on this forum for all to appreciate. This "competition" should not be put in a light that discourages people from providing the information that we have all gotten accustommed to. IF it does, then it only distracts from the value of this site.
Good point, absolutely.

I believe that a limit should be set on submissions, that prizes should be clearly appointed for what is going to be awarded as a prize shot, and that a reasonable period for submission be available (not by tomorrow at 2, but you have the next 20 days, ending at ...).
I think we are looking at 3-5 pics per WIX member (please donate something to WIX or a warbird organisation per pic.)
Good point re-timecales - how long should we go for? 20 days?

The EAA has a great contest, as does AVweek. Not that we should get a magazine sponsor, but perhaps the rules, and guidelines are already out there for creating the foundation.
Well there are two magazine prizes already -
Classic Wings (thanks Dave) and
Flightpath. More, of course would be welcome.
Anyone with
any rule suggestions, get them in soon, because I think we are getting there...

Lastly.....Ownership?......
Touched on by Scott, awaiting feedback. Thoughts?
