How about Dave's Dream-the B-29 that dropped the A-bomb on Bikini atol. I'll bet the National Atomic Museum would like to have that plane. Didn't get scrapped until the 1960's...

hmm... how'd I forget the Avro Arrow.... mind you, I'd save one of each... the Avro Arrow Mk I and the MkII (Pratt and Whitney powered and Orendo powered, respectively)
Oh, and there are so many great planes that would have been great to save... so I'll second all of them. Hmm... I can't remember, did anyone mention a Dehavilland Sea Hornet or the Australian CA-15.
cheers,
David

A DH Hornet
A Short Stirling
A production-spec Westland Wyvern
A TDB Devastator
An Armstrong Whitworth Whitley
A Dornier Do-17
A Henschel Hs-129
A Henschel Hs-126
A Handley Page Hampden
All operational aircraft (in many cases with significant combat history) with no complete survivors.
And last of all, as others have already said......
The magnificent Boeing 314 Clipper.

Richtofen's Triplane...
Pardon my ignorance, but I seem to remember reading ages ago that there was a red and green Fokker Dr. 1 of Richtofen's on display in Berlin until bombing raids levelled it. Anybody else heard of it? I've still got the book at the house...somewhere...
Oh and while I'm at it, throw my vote in with the Typhoon and Mosquito.

I remember reading the same thing...years ago...with a picture of the plane. It may have been in a Jablonski (sp?) book (author of Air War).

Hartmann's 109 already been said? Whoops. My bad.
I guess great minds think alike, but some (like mine) just go a bit slower than others...

Yes, that's true. And the good and wise leader of te country at the time refused to allow it to be moved out of Berlin for safe keeping. Thanks, 'Dolf...
