Gotta love the Wings here. Though Luongo makes the Canucks an instant threat to take a series or two. After tonight's games;

-I think Dallas may have more trouble than they anticipated. Turco was a bit iffy at times. I hate ragging on a Michigan boy, but he just isn't the same come playoff time.

-I'm starting to believe Nashville has earned every bit of their "Trashville" nickname. I like Tootoo, he's an energy player like Maltby is for Detroit. But that hit Hartnell put on Chechoo has just put a huge dent in San Jose's chances, and was as dirty as they come.

-The kids in Pittsburgh better get their act together next game, or they'll be swept in a heartbeat. They looked scared to death and completely out of place against Ottawa. They may be more talented, but the Pen's lack of playoff experience was showing like a cold sore tonight.

Of all the changes, I actually like the shootout. Now if they'd just bring in no-touch icing, and clean up the points awarded for Wins, Loses, Overtime Loses, Loses on consecutive Thursdays during months that end in "Y", etc. then get the NHL back on ESPN, then demote Gary Bettman to Peanut vendor for the Columbus Blue Jackets, we'd be all set.

Let's go Pens. They better do better than tonight. But we are happy to have them staying here in the burgh.

I like the icing rule as it is, the race to the puck can change the flow of the game if the opposing team gets to it first adding to the excitement of the game. One thing I would like to see is the ice size change to the larger European size. The players are bigger and faster now and the larger ice size would give them more room to play.

4 overtimes, 72 saves by Luongo and a goal by Henrik Sedin assisted by brother Daniel and the Canucks managed to squeak one out. Stats wise Vancouver and Dallas are pretty even but I thought Dallas had the edge in play over Vancouver. 4 goals on Luongo! Seeing that this is his first Stanley Cup playoff game ever, guess he had first game jitters. On the Dallas side, I thought Nagy and Zubov looked good and Turco wasn't bad either. Best of all, no riots in Vancouver after the game! On to game #2!

As for coverage, sounds like the CBC is having anxiety attacks because there's no Montreal or Toronto in the playoffs.

Ollie....where are those Canadiens?

My 12 year old son as been cheering for them for the past couple years. Their enforcer has the same name as my son..."Andrew Peters". Of course he's your typical meat-head...spends more time fighting and in the penalty box than he does putting the puck in the net (so far this season he has 1 goal and 1 assist ). If they win the Stanley Cup then he can go around telling all his friends that his name is on the cup!

I've gotta tow the Don Cherry line about no-touch icing. Too many guys get hurt going into the boards awkwardly racing down a puck.

I like the ice size the way it is. The Euro rinks are too big in my book. Everybody's entitled to their opinion, even if they're wrong .



Yeah, it seems that game took a turn after i went to bed for the night. Luongo spent so many years getting shelled in Florida, he must be in hog heaven up in Vancouver.



They've got Calgary to knob-slob all over. I heard Brett Hull open his cake hole to rag on the Wings. Man, I can't stand that guy.

The Sens kicked Pens butt last night!!! Woooo hoooo!!!!!!

For me, the touch icing rule is strictly a way to keep the game exciting. Since the puck remains in play the race for the puck or forcing the goalie to play it adds an element of excitement. Also many of the injuries that happened during the race for the puck were the result of other factures like boarding, checking from behind and slew footing and so on. So the race didn't hurt him, the guy crosschecking him from behind did. At some level there is an increased risk of injury to players but is it any worse than other potential risks of injury in the game? What's next....no fighting!



As for the larger ice surface, it would open up the game by allowing the more talented players room to skate. As it stands now the NHL's approach to giving the better players room is by increasing the rules relating to clutching, grabbing and interference. The only thing I've noticed is more penalties being called delaying the game more. Anyway, a larger rink will never happen because they would loose about two rows of revenue generating seating.



Luongo's never had so much attention! Best trade we've made in a long time.



The CBC's still got the Sens, without at least one eastern team they would surely have play reruns of Coronation Street.

BTW, what was Brett Hull spouting off about?

No fighting? HERESY! I still think that the risk vs. reward is too high with touch icing. You're not gonna see a Jagr, Thorton, etc. go hard to beat an icing against some forth liner fresh off the bus from Medicine Hat. Too much to lose. So you're basically setting up the young guys with a roster spot to lose for injury. Didn't go hard for that puck? You're a pansy. Got hurt because you happened to be between the other guy and the boards when you both went down? Eh, those are the breaks, that shoulder will heal in 6 or 8 weeks....



And we got the rest of that deal



What hasn't he been on about? First there was his quote a couple weeks ago about Datsyuk's "0 percent chance" of re-signing with the Wings because he wanted to play with his "best friend" Ovechkin in Washington. Then he called the Wings soft and predicted Calgary in 7. Well, if anyone knows "soft" it's Brett Hull. All mouth, no game.
