So is this bad for the CAF?

Seems like no one else is concerned.
IMHO, the USAFM does not need another P/F-82. Or in any case take away from others.

You can't sell something you don't own. This happened with another aircraft besides the P-82. I don't know who owns the P-82 though.

USAF. As the story has been told, apparently the P-82 was on loan to the CAF until such day that they no longer wanted it. At that time it was to be returned to the USAF. Sounds clear enough but from what I've been told nobody on either side of the "Debate" can generate any dated paperwork to substantiate their claim...hence the court case.
Any idea what started coming apart inside Bald Eagles engine? Who was that one built by? PM me if you don't want to post.

John, the USAF's position is that it was on loan. The CAF's position is that they were given the deed on the aircraft and that the paperwork was lost over the years or something to the sort. Plus the CAF claims that they did a title check on the aircraft and nothing was returned, in effect proving that the USAF doesn't claim ownership on the aircraft. The court case will have that title search entered as evidence and the USAF will enter its claims for ownership into evidence, and then the judge and/or jury will then decide who's got the better claim for the aircraft and they'll be awarded the title.
I'm sure it'll be a bit more bitter of a fight than I make it sound, but the basics are the same. Both organizations claim ownership of the aircraft and both believe they have proof showing that they're right. Now it's up to the court to decide who's going to get it.

Yes, thanks for a refresher of the facts. I was close but not completely on the nail. I've heard (But have no facts) that the same arrangement exists for the B-29 and SB2C. If the court finds in favor of the USAF, I can't help but wonder what that will mean for them.

Hmm. It's interesting that it's not listed anywhere on the CAF's site among all their owned a/c. Unless I overlooked it.

CAPFlyer has most of the facts....however, we DO have a title; it isn't lost. The B-29 is operated under a slightly different arrangement and is not in any danger of being "repossessed" by the AF. The SB2C is in no way in jeopardy; ditto for all the other airplanes in the fleet. The venue change is not a good thing for the CAF, but not a terrible thing either. Both sides will have their day in court. We are hopeful of a favorable ruling.
