Those roundup airshows .. when will we see more?

Sat Oct 06, 2007 2:35 am

I have noted recently there was the P-51 Mustang round up in Ohio?, so when does a another type of these roundups happen but with say P-40 Kittyhawks or T-6 Harvards or F-86 Sabrejets or another mass common type?

Are any airshows pushing these ideas?

Maybe someone could make a pure Bomberfest.. B-17, B-24, B-25 , B-26 etc and see what happens? the earth would move if 14 B-17, 15 B-25, 5-6 A/B-26 and 2 B-24 were all in one airspace... imagine the pulling power of such a flyby.

We should get more of these "type" shows in America would be great me thinks :)

Seeing, hearing and feeling all of the Mitchells do the mass formation flyover at Thunder this year was awe-inspiring!

The men & women planning future Thunder over Michigan" events, have probably already tossed around any number of "round-up" themes. Their B17 & B25 events these past two years were spectacular.

If I had to guess, I would bet they are just waiting for the next 3 P38's to get into the air. Imagine seeing 6 flying P38's?

Even without a "single-type" theme, TOM is worth attending.

There were two Corsair shows (2002 & 2005) and next summer is the 70th anniversary of the T-6. With all the other options, all that gets in the way is cash!

If people are worried about rising fuel prices, we can always have an L-Bird round-up... just a thought 8) But, it'd have to wait until late 2008...

2008 Wings Over Akron is based on a Corsair gathering.

This was to take place earlier this year until their major sponsor backed out at the last minute, not allowing enough time to pick up a replacememnt.
Lets cross our fingers for 2008

Personally, I like to see this type of show only every once-in-a-while. You keep throwing together mega-shows and pretty soon they become routine. Just my two cents worth.

We at NATA have one every five years for the T-6, 2008 will be at Dubuque the weekend before OSH, its its 70th. 2009 we will have one for the T-28, its its 60th.

I will be at that Corsair Gathering for sure. Is anyone else kinda feeling down about the Mustang Gathering being over?

Does anyone have any word yet on the Akron show for 2008? This could conflict with our theme.

Next year is the 50th anniversary of the CJ-6...there is a gathering planned for Oshkosh...I know...its just a Yak.

I am looking forward to the ICAS meeting in December to see which big show we should plan our 2008 Summer Vacation to! I do feel that now that GML is over, a year of anticipation needs to be replaced, Sun-n-Fun is only 6 months away. :D

Picking up our camping trailer in the next few weeks will keep us busy with setting that up for Lakeland. See you there :!:

IMHO, the CJ6/Yak owners/pilots have performed some really tight & attractive formations at OSH, particularly so this past summer. They seem to be a good bunch of pilots/owners as well. Look forward to more formations to celebrate their 50th anniversary next summer.

I am with you mustangdriver, kind of down about the Gathering being over. I was there Fri---Sun and could have gone another three days if they would have happened.

I must say I could do without the F-22 display.......way to noisy by the Sunday show! I could have done with less jet noise throughout the day, myself. The racket made it hard to listen to and communicate with the LEGENDS......which was a major component of the show, in my opinion.
