T-6 Paint Schemes

Sat Jan 15, 2005 9:16 pm

Hello Folks:

A WW2 pilot told me that later in the war, T-6's were painted yellow in the AAF. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks,

Chris

Ours is green, with a black cowling and RCAF roundels and numbers. Can't beat a totally whacky scheme on a Harvard. He he he...

I didn't think the yellow scheme came out until the G model were re-manufactured in 1949.

Here's my 1944 AT-6F, although I can't say that the paint is authentic, I believe that it's close.

Mr patterson:

That looks pretty darn good. Silver or grey paint?

Metallic silver paint. She looks pretty good from 50'

We were doing a photo shoot of my friend Bob Williams and his new PT-22. Bob had just completed a comprehensive 3 year restoration of this beauty, and his son Dan Williams was taking photos of his dad from the back of the T-6.

A very special day...

Well, I was wondering if the metallic silver looks good up close, like two feet away?

It's not bad from 2 ft away, but I could always wish for better...

Mr. Patterson:

Good work. I hope mine will turn out as well as your and Ollie's ships.

Nice photos guys!

Mr. Patterson, what is that growth on your wingroot? I usually see those
in cockpits, wielding some sort of implement of repair, or attached to
a checkbook!

Speaking of yellow Texans, here's a photo of Ray Gentile's T-6G from Kansas City. Ray is a fellow supporter of the Heart of America CAF wing, and his T-6 is a real beauty.

I love flying the T-6, as it's a pilot's machine. It's not the fastest, or the most nimble, but it scores a 10 out of 10 in the fun department.

You like flying the six more than a Sea Fury or Mustang?
