This is the second time ive seen this in old WWII photos... The prop nomenclature normally is seen stenciled going in the same direction of the prop. For example: the Ham Standard stickers on the props and then closer to the prop hub is the nomenclature. Well in some photos I see that the nomenclature is in the same spot but goes across the width of the prop.

I also found prop nomenclature turned differently when researching the paint scheme for the Blue Angel's F8F for LSFM. There was a pic of Butch Voris's #1 plane with the wording going across the width of the prop.
Does anyone know if there was a particular reason why the nomenclature is changed?
