Warbird Information Exchange

Did one individual ask those questions, or was there truly a "they" - e.g. several people, and do you think there was any ill will with those questions, or just a straightforward request for information?

My experiences being greeted at Oshkosh have always been polite, but to the point, which is fine by me. - "Welcome to Oshkosh, by the way, do you have tie-downs"

Take a second to think about the questions and they make a little more sense - "Why are you here?" Greeter wants to know if you are just stopping by briefly (which some warbirds do), if you are part of the airshow perhaps, etc. Why exactly you are there makes a difference in where you are parked.

"When are you leaving?" Are you leaving in an hour, the next day, etc? Again, makes a difference in where they park you and when services such as fueling arrangements need to be made if any.

The greeters at AirVenture are all volunteers, and while they may be terse (they have literally thousands of other airplanes to deal with), they are generally polite and helpful. As an EAA staffer all I can say is thank God for volunteers, each and every one!

After 9 pages of discussion , I'm a little confused.
For 16 years I have driven to Oshkosh. Now I am flying an airplane and parking it in the Antiques and Classics section.
It has a two man crew.

Question : are we entitled to a couple of wrist bands becuase of this??

When the B-17 came to our city years ago (before the gear up ) The EAA folks who operated the B-17 told me they made at least $800,000 after all expenses were paid per season. After all this discussion I would be interested to know where that money goes ? my point is that the B-17 (warbird) makes the EAA alot of money and I have not heard if the profit goes back to general funds or if it is earmarked in any way perhaps to warbird displays in the muesum ? We are planning to take the AC-47 to OSH just because it is on the way home from an airshow otherwise we could not afford to go. The EAA has always treated us well. We do discuss with our crew who is going the costs involved so there are no surprizes when we arrive.

I look forward to seeing "Spooky" there.

A bit of trivia: I named my cat after the O-2 (Cessna 337) I flew on when I was much younger. After he died I started using the name "spookythecat" for message boards or whatever.
