I just read a very good post. My question is this: If there was an airplane from WW2, or any era, that we could have displayed in a museum or in flying condition, what warbird would you like to see today either flying or exhibited today?

Easy. One of the aircraft flown in combat - either a Albatros D.IV or Fokker Dr.1 - by Manfred von Richthofen. Interestingly, one of each was still in existence under being destroyed in WWII.

That's a good question Mark. Tough too.

I really miss a Mosquito in the air.

I was there. It was magnificent.

We will see one fly again.

B-36 in flying condition would be a sight I would really enjoy. 6 in formation, I wouldn't be able to walk for a week...

hmm, how about the PBY the cactus airforce pressed into use as a torpedo bomber during the Guadalcanal campaign.

any of the land based aircraft that were shot full of holes defending Midway during that battle

Hank Elrod's F4F from Wake Island

the SBD Wade McClusky flew during the battle of Midway

the Swordfish that dropped the torpedo that jammed Bismark's rudder

Dinah Might, the first crippled B-29 to land at Iwo Jima

there probably countless others but these come to mind for me
