G3M NELL went to China and barely got back

Thu May 28, 2009 7:32 pm

1937 August 14, the first day of bombing China
in a daring "transoceanic flight" from Japan.
This NELL was the most damaged to survive.
At crash site:

exhibit set up...was exhibited at the Navy Museum.
Top turret has been completely deleted

What all did the Chinese have in their AF at the time? Hawks, Peashooters, I-15s and I-16's? The Nell was a pretty fast AC, so one of those would have had to have had altitude to get the jump. I know I have seen some of these pics lately, just don't recall where.

Sorry, Holedigger,
Due to "Indian arrows" comments about the E8N post I made today, I reposted the NELL photos from a week ago...instead of a 'bump'.

So I'm not going crazy! The Nell always reminded me of the Dornier "Flying Pencil"

I find the forensic arrows interesting to rebuild the attack. I have seen US AC with chalked circles and caliber sizes on various holes.
