After a quick comparison to the MAAM's P-61 it looks like the wings were removed at the right spot/ same spot...

Wonder if they are going to start to restore it?

Was it ever determined if it ever had any specific markings or what unit?

That would be a very interesting project. I would say that anyone looking to restore a/the Widow should get in touch w/ the MAAM... I know the NASM example was never rebuilt like the MAAM's plane. (I dont know about the NMUSAF example).

MAAM has all the jigs, and 20 years of experience...

I am not familiar with the Chinese restoration scene, but a/the widow will be a huge undertaking for any restoration group.

My own guess is that that plane will likely be reassembled with a fresh coat of paint and put back on display at some point. :?

If I remember correctly, NASM's widow is still as she served with NACA?

I sent an email to a Chinese Air Traffic Controller friend in PEK and asked him to do some checking on the bird. As you can see on Google Earth is it about 400 yards south of it's previous location. It'd just south of the new academic building. Here is a Chinese blog he sent me to. You will need bablefish or something to translate it to english.

http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_4a4f61550100g0e1.html

Old location: N39°58'51". E116°20'40" .
You can enter into Google Earth "Fly To" box like this: N39 58 51 / E116 20 40.
Actually you can opmi the "/"

Current location N39°58'40". E116°20'41" (Fly to: N39 58 40 / E116 20 41)

I will probably be in PEK in April and will check it out.

I couldn't read the blog, but loved the photos! I wonder if they would ever consider selling the Black Widow?

Since China owes us so much money, we should demand the airplane NOW!

Maybe just send them a DVD of "The Flying Tigers" to remind them of what we've done for them in the past. :)

Here is the Google electronic translation. The computer doesn't always translate Chinese very well.

Rich,
I'm not sure who owes who money but the balance of trade is in their favor according to http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/bal ... .html#2009

We exported to China $69,576.0 Billion. We imported from China $ 296,402.1 Billion. -226,826.1

Please note the "rolling eyes" emoticon (hint: sarcasm). I believe our debt to China is closer to $1.5 trillion.

Have a good day. 8)

Maybe Yagen could trade them a couple of P-40s for it...

R,
Oh so that's what they're called?
My Chinese friends send so many of those flashy things in their emails, SMSs etc. I have have trained myself to ignor them. I will have to untrain myself. That could be difficult though. :)
