Yale 3390 Recovery and Mr Cleaver's Planes

Yes, 3390 was one of the Simmons Yales. It was used as a parts plane for one of 3350's former owners and Leon bought it in 1973. I've got a copy of it's service card, and there's not much on it. I know it served at Camp Borden in 1940-41, and it went to Noorduyn for complete overhaul from Nov. '44 to Feb. '45. Other than that I don't know where it was.

BTW the engine only has 1.55 hours on it since overhaul! Too bad it's due for another...

Tom, yes we did go through Wakeman on our way back up to #2. It was Thursday about 2:30-3:00. Sorry, I didn't know you lived so close!

I'm also in search of a T-6/Harvard wheel, as the good looking tire seen in the pics belongs to CHAA, and they want it back. Tires aren't a problem as CHAA has a few bald ones out behind the hangar, but I need a rim to mount one on to move it around.

Great find Shane, it sure is fun pulling a Warbird behind your truck!!!

It's also fun to watch a warbird being pulled by your friend's truck from your truck and watch all the faces/reactions by folks on the highway
who pull up next to it! Here's a pic of Harvard II RCAF 3134 headed home to my hangar from the Olympia airport (the outer wing panels and
tail feathers are on another truck/trailer outside the view of this shot). Congrats on the Yale find/purchase BTW!

Bela, nice shot of your Harvard! Pretty neat having NA-75 Harvard #1.
and we also got a kick out of peoples reactions pulling it on I-90...lots of thumbs ups and cell phone cameras being used...

Craig59, sorry, didn't have much of a chance to inspect the H-19s. The more complete one was all tarped up and I didn't want to undo all the straps just to have a quick peek. We were pretty busy loading the plane. The one pictured didn't have any definite markings, but since it's dark green/olive drab, I'm guessing either USMC or Army? Sorry I can't narrow it down.

Tom, nope, we had no trouble with cops. We were only doing 80-90 kph (50-55mph) all the way home.

My plan is to restore 3390 as a wireless trainer, in its current late-war markings, complete with all the aerials and antennas, as well as a full Marconi radio setup in the back seat.
Now does anyone know where to find the clear housing for the D/F loop? (or a part number at least) Or how about parts for the mast antenna in front of the windscreen? (ie insulators and mounts)

I'm not sure on that one. When Leon bought it in '73, the wings were not included. For all I know they could be on 3350. Either that, or since the original owner probably bought it as a parts plane, they may have even been sold to another Yale owner before it left the Simmons farm... I guess we'll never know.

BTW do you know anything else about the UC-78/Crane project? Leon didn't have a whole lot there, but I guess every little bit helps.
