Why does Wild Bill Kelso appear to have an ammunition belt from a German machine gun? Maybe he picked that up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

don't worry about Skip...

Mon Nov 09, 2009 10:53 pm

....he is pretty well connected and I doubt that he did anything wrong in this incident and IF some inspector wants to make a name for himself by going after Skip, he might just find himself stationed in Adak Alaska.

Skips involvement in this recent event is a moot point. He was flying perfectly fine doing low passes over the water at a distance from the crowd. The other guy Riggs was directly over the crowd below the 1000' min., and he was flying too close to structures. Skip was ok here.

In 1987 Skip was an ADULT! A USAF officer, test pilot, and once again an ADULT. Sorry, it could of been 1977 and its still no excuse.

BTW - I've had to opportunity to meet Skip and even work with him once, and as a pilot I have the utmost respect for him, he's one of the best. At the same time I will say that at times he thinks he's above the law.

There's been other scrapes with the FAA between 1987 and now, and post 9-11 and the current mindset of the FAA has nothing to do with it.

I heard he's going to walk....

I agree he is an adult and that it's no excuse, I'm just saying that nowadays, it's a lot harder to get away with "flying indiscretions" than in years past. I don't condone the behavior, but just trying to understand what would motivate somebody to so flagrantly violate the FAR's.

They pulled his ticket once and even though it was more of a slap on the wrist, I don't think he'll continue to do anything that will put his ticket at risk.

So it seems...

Again, somtimes some folks think they are above the law - other have no regards for it. I think Riggs falls into the later, but then read about his shady past....

Holy cow, what a can of worms! Thanks for that link, it sheds a lot more light on what really happened. I'm still reading it, but one phrase caught my attention on page 27:

"Mr. Holm specifically stated that he does not make his living out of flying, but rather as an engineer or from engineering, and that, in his words, he was not concerned about whether or not he lost his license. He did, however, admit that he had had prior violation history with the Federal Aviation Administration, and I did note that."

I'm shocked that Skip doesn't care whether he loses his pilots license or not. I guess that explains everything.

So, it sounds like the whole reason they did this stunt was for PR publicity due to the fact that a lot of Hollywood moguls were staying at an adjacent hotel there. Mr. Riggs was trying to obtain funding for his movie.

One has to wonder just what was rattling around in thier heads when they thought up this stunt. I suppose they got the attention they were seeking though. Made for an interesting video. Sorta sophomorish like teenagers out with thier car doing donuts in the school parking lot.

Yep! And Riggs could care less about all the grief he's going to bring upon the entire warbird community.

The cold hard reality is that Skip Holm's aerial skills are what you are seeing in that video. Skip is a great airman but lacks a great deal of common sense. Skip had been violated three times before and figured it was the only way to save his ticket. He has no "get out of jail free card" he just rats out other pilots to get loose from the Feds

This is no joke I am sad to say, I was personally in Russian on a movie set with Skip Holm, Rigs and 4 other pilots when the news of the revocation came in from the FAA back home. All of us heard Skip admit that he blamed Rigs because - and I quote "you can produce movies but I have to make a living flying and this is my fourth violation and probably my last". Bottom line Skip hung his wingman out to dry to save himself. If you doubt the fact Skip is dangerous, check out these Youtube Videos where he admits careless and reckless in his own words...a video confession!

and

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRRDeWtsNis

I admire his talents but after this nonesense, I would never fly with Skip again.

Moral to the Story: "Never lose sight of your wingman" -- Especially if you intend to rat him out to the Feds.
