Harvard IV Banned

Wed Jun 22, 2005 9:14 pm

While Harvard IV skirted the letter of the rules, he broke the spirit of them. He repeatedly posted provocative comments even when I personally asked him to back off. Harvard IV has proven to be a disruptive influence to the community, surpasing the legendary Col. Rohr in this regard. For these reasons as well as the shear volume of complaints about him, Harvard IV is hereby banned permanently.

I am all for freedom of speech, I firmly believe it is an inherent right. I also believe in the right to be silent. Some people need to explore this second option on occasion. In the last few weeks this forum had been severely lacking in fun for me. Everyday I log in to a barrage of PM's and I have to spend time dealing with immature 2nd grader crap. It got to the point where I was ignoring the forum and contemplating shutting it down. However, I have recieved several very supportive comments anbd PM's from members and I remembered that while there are several disruptive individuals on the forum there are over 700 registered members who normally enjoy this forum. For this reason I will be policing this forum closely. I don't want to be a hard arsed individual but will be if necessary.

To help with this regard I would like to invite individuals who would like to be considered for moderator positions to e-mail me. I am looking to create two moderator slots whose jobs will be to give warnings to people and to bring problem issues to my attention. Let me know if your interested.

In addition I have looked into adding an ignore feature. this function, once in place, will allow you to place a user on an ignore list. When the user comes across a post by a person on his ignore list he will see a message indicating this as well as a link to the post if he decides he does want to see it. This is a major programming project so it might take awhile, I will let you all know when it comes into effect.

Scott,
If I helped fan the flames that created trouble for you I regret that. While not always able to keep quiet, I've always tried to reply in a civil manner.
I appreciate and value this board and what it stands for and have formed a number of new friendships because of this board. Hopefully now things will quiet down, former participants will return and this forum will become all and more that you envision it to be.

Scott,

Your forum here is priceless. And the exchange of information, ideas, thoughts, and history via others photography is something you should be proud of. I would love to help you, but I am not sure of how much time I could put forward to your board to help due to a very heavy work schedule. As I had indicated to you, your efforts here have proven a very good resource, and to some, a very good place to talk and discuss.. Thank You again,

Paul

Scott

Two 'bad apples' out of 720 members is a prity good strike rate. The majority of members are to be commended for their restraint in most instances - despite the obvious argumentative and trolling posts made by the banned posters.
Keep up the good work, it is much appreciated from all corners of the globe.

regards
Dave

Many thanks for doing this. I realize it was not an easy thing, and distasteful, but I think it was needed. I enjoy the board, and have gained much from frequenting it. I've not been around much lately tho, because of this individual, and his attitude.

I support your decision, and think it's for the best.

And to let you know............

And to let you know............

Even if I am not a frequent poster.

This place is my favorite daily read. One needs to indulge self into a little R&R. Specially if you have an extremely busy life: kids, work, etc.....

It is actually a place where I can read & enjoy my favorite hobby with amazing input from across the planet.

If policing is required.........so be it.

Just a word of caution however on that topic. Please choose your moderator with great care. I would hate to see the diversity of posts & user posting being reduced due to topic preferences or rather not wanting certain type of topics.

Please rest assured that all your work & efforts do not go unnoticed by the community and is more than appreciated Scott.

If you are ever in the Montreal area, give me a buzz it will be more than y pleasure to treat you out to a cold one.

Cheers.

Scott, first of all let me say thanks for keeping the board going. I echo the sentiments of all the guys that appreciate this place & the folks that take the time to contribute, especially the no kidding real warbird owners, pilots, restorers, maintainers, historians, the average joe blows that share the interest we have. I must say that I do admire Chris's enthusiasm & energy he showed about aviation. However, the next time a knowledgeable person gives him advice, or answeres his questions with an accurate answer he really needs to be more EARS & less MOUTH. I had a guy working for with me once that was doing a tire change on a corporate jet in which the mains run around 180 psi tire pressure. The shop foreman was hurrying him to finish & mistakes kept being made. I was the Chief Inspector for this outfit & saw what was going on. I went over & made it real clear that he needed to slow down & that if need be I would come help him put the wheel together as I was fully qualified on the type aircraft. He blew me off & said he had it under control. 10 minutes later the wheel blew up & KILLED the guy he turned to & asked for help instead of come getting me. He had put the wheel together wrong again & was taking it back apart but forgot to let the nitrogen out. He was injured & off for awhile. When he came back to work we had along talk--he knew he should have listened to me! Hope Chris sees the light. Scott you did the right thing! By the way I don't like telling this story- sometimes others need to hear it, hope they listen & learn!
