Great thread;
It motivated me to "start" a sample listing of the signed books. Now (maybe) my kids won't throw out the ones on the list.
I have a couple of thousand signed photos, couple of hundred signed, important aviation history signed documents. (like a Curtiss signed 1917 patent grant for triplane construction, with all the stamps & ribbons on it) Hundreds of signed art and photos by air racers and designers, Albums full of pre-WWI pilots and designer signed photos and documents. But This thread is about signed books. Here are "some" that I found quickly on the shelves. There are so many others scattered about the library, especially a lot of WWII subjects that I don't refer to very often. Most of these are author-signed, but include some aero history makers in there..

*Special*
O. Chanute; PROGRESS IN FLYING MACHINES, 1894, First ed. This signed book was the presentation copy to Western Society of Engineers, Dayton Ohio. Members who had read this book, questioned the reports of the earliest Wright Bothers experiments, there, in Dayton. As a result, Wilbur gave his first ever, public presentation of the Wrights experiments and theories of flight. In addition to the O.Chanute ink signature, this book is stamped in violet ink, at least five times, as “Property of The Western Society of Engineers.” The inscription reads: “Western Society of Engineers, With respects of the author, (signed) O. Chanute” It is (ex-WSoE library)

I've got a bit over 75 autographed aviation books, the majority are WWII, and another bunch of books with Aces signatures. One of my prized autographed books is "I'm no Hero" by Charles Plumb who was shot down in Vietnam and spent four years in the hanoi Hilton.

I agree, Roger. One of the BEST books ever read. Charlie had stopped by our aero salvage yard for (sometning??) in the early 1980s. Very humble and soft-spoken guy who gave no clue as to the story of the book. He offered me a signed copy out of his trunk, as a gift. Being avidly interested in WWI and Golden Age aero history, I accepted it more out of "politeness" than anticipation. I opened it that night for a "glance" and sat riveted to it until I finished at one sitting. TRULY a book (and a man)to be treasured.

I have a Robert Taylor print signed by former COs of 3 Sqn RAAF and another signed by Spitfire identities like Neville Duke and Alex Henshaw. Also have a pencil print singed by Bob Cowper DFC and Bar, LdH and a Stephen Teasdale Mossie pencil print signed by 13 former Mossie aircrew.

However, since this is a book thread, I've only been collecting signed books in the past couple of years and besides some author-signed books, a review of the shelves reveals these signed copies:

A Most Secret Squadron - Des Curtis DFC
Sledgehammers For Tintacks - Ron Curtis DSO, DFC and Bar; Geoff Gilbert DFM; Russell Gradwell; Ken Grantham DFM; Tony Farrell DFC, AFC; Fred Fossett; Peter Rowland; Don Street DFC; Jack Watson; Fred Whitfield DFM.
Five Of The Many - Rupert Cooling; Joe Petrie-Andrews DFC, DFM; W Harry Hughes DFC, DFM, AE; Tony Iveson DFC.
That's That - Rob Honan
Luck Is No Accident - Col King
Chasing Shadows - Bob Cowper DFC and Bar, LdH
RAF Bomber Command At War - signed by 13 aircrew but the typed list isn't handy so just the ones I can read: Ray Swift, Sam Thompson, Ken Johnson, Eric Varney, Harry Parker DFM.
Brave And True - John McManus DFC
From North Africa To The Arakan - Alan Peart DFC
Those Air Force Days - Gordon Wallace
Voice From The Stars - Tom Scotland DFC
The Day I Owned The Sky - Robert Scott
Three Times Lucky - Jack Woodward
Ghosts II - Joe Foss, Lefty Gardner, Tex Hill, Paul Tibbets.

I rarely can make it through a book in 6 months, I finished that one in about two days, I gave him some pictures of his plane, received his book as a thank you :D
