Great thread;
It motivated me to "start" a sample listing of the signed books. Now (maybe) my kids won't throw out the ones on the list.
I have a couple of thousand signed photos, couple of hundred signed, important aviation history signed documents. (like a Curtiss signed 1917 patent grant for triplane construction, with all the stamps & ribbons on it) Hundreds of signed art and photos by air racers and designers, Albums full of pre-WWI pilots and designer signed photos and documents. But This thread is about signed books. Here are "some" that I found quickly on the shelves. There are so many others scattered about the library, especially a lot of WWII subjects that I don't refer to very often. Most of these are author-signed, but include some aero history makers in there..
*Special*
O. Chanute; PROGRESS IN FLYING MACHINES, 1894, First ed. This signed book was the presentation copy to Western Society of Engineers, Dayton Ohio. Members who had read this book, questioned the reports of the earliest Wright Bothers experiments, there, in Dayton. As a result, Wilbur gave his first ever, public presentation of the Wrights experiments and theories of flight. In addition to the O.Chanute ink signature, this book is stamped in violet ink, at least five times, as “Property of The Western Society of Engineers.” The inscription reads: “Western Society of Engineers, With respects of the author, (signed) O. Chanute” It is (ex-WSoE library)
