We have some courageous keyboard vigilantes here.
You'll notice we don't have much of a piracy problem off the coast of the USA. Is that because we threw away due process and embraced cruel and unusual punishment? No. It's because we have cops (i.e. navy, USCG, water borne police). The problem is solved when the baddies are caught or know they will be caught. The swift, fun, exotic punishments after they are caught do not make much of a contribution beyond that. Maybe the opposite, as muddy suggests.
Some parts of the world still need a coast guard, that's all.

Well.., this country also has a functioning governing body(somewhat) unlike Somalia.., which is run by mobs and thugs!
This thread was what to do about this issue against the merchant and private vessels while Somalia is still in chaos. If a few of these pirates did not come back at all..,or all toe-tagged instead of waving off of the bridge of a captured tanker.., the expectant result would be quite different. I.E. they would find other ventures to earn cash and turn from pirating.
Like I said.., I am all for due process.. followed by a first class hanging!
