The NJ P-38 is no where near the same level of condition as these aircraft.

Still doesn't hide the fact that the aircraft should not be stuck on a pole in the NJ weather!

Well, there are alot of warbirds that were with us in 1981 that are no longer here. This one still is, and I am thankful for that. Plans are in the works to bring it indoors. That is a good thing. Now, we need to try and help Chanute.

Agreed...and help Grissom and other places.
And as you pointed out, the NMUSAF is trying to work with the museum and protect airframes.

Yes, the NMUSAF does things we don't always like, but overall, they've good far more good than harm....just something to for the critics/dislikersers/haters (choose one according to your mood ) to remember, they are not always wrong.

BTW: If they're going to help the NJ P-38, how about the Lackland P-51H and P-47N?
These days, NO WWII fighter should be left oudoors....and in the not too distant future, because of their age, we'll be saying that about C-47s and B-17s.

And there are a lot of aircraft that were barely "survivors" in 1981 which flies today. Not to mention the static airframes gone since then.

30 years too late, but hopefully it will. If a plane on a pole is deemed necessary get one of the fibreglass replicas. Or create a bronze statue of McGuire to put at the entrance. That would be just as appropriate as anything else.

I do hope that something can be done with this Chanute situation though. To the best for the airframes.
