Warbird F-4A Phantom II to fly in late 2011?

I understand that the nearly ready - after 8yrs or rework - early build F-4A Phantom warbird now marked up in fleet training colour with "AD" and white blue red tail markings, is now only months away from flying. It is using ex F-4B engines are installed.

Would be great to see this fly alongside the CF F-4D Phantom and a USAF Heritage flight F-4E Phantom and a German Air Force F-4F Phantom ideally for a amazing rare formation.

Heres hoping more F-4s will be civilised

It would be terrific to see the F-4A/F4H-1F Phantom II fly before the end of the Centennial of Naval Aviation. But in any case I hope to see this beauty in the air soon. It would be great if it could fly at the Planes of Fame Warbird show in Chino next May......How about a vintage Navy jet formation with the F-4A leading the FJ-4B Fury on one wing and an A-4 Skyhawk on the other wing, or better yet the F-4A with Two Skyhawks and the Fury.

the collings foundation phantom, is that hangered in Mass. or some other state? I've never seen it fly and i'm in the state

I hope to have her finished by the end of this year. Some minor things keep getting in the way, as prototype and production parts don't always match. An example is the latest glitch... production "fat wing" speed brake actuators won't work on an early "thin wing". The speed brakes hang down 3 inches! Little things, but they always add up to missing the deadline.

The Collings Foundation keeps their jets (F-4D Phantom, F-100F Super Sabre and TA-4F Skyhawk) in Texas in the Houston area. RickH can give you the details.

Pat, thanks for giving us a reality check on your work on the Phantom at Wings and Rotors. I am sure the differences between a very early model like this and those later F-4B's, etc. do pose some unique challenges. Best of luck with the speed brake actuators and everything else.

Meeting paper deadlines in not important with a project like this. Doing it right and making sure you have a safe airplane before flight is what counts.

Keep up the great work. Look forward to seeing the finished aircraft when it's ready.

Nope, no landing at Stow. Takeoff out of Pease, couple of low approaches at the Foundation, recover at Pease.
