Other than the man that jumped out of the Mustang in England this last weekend, how many other people have found themselves having to bail out in the last 20-30 years?

I remember two people jumping out of a Mustang in North Carolina about ten years ago. Any others that anybody can think of?

How about 58-1/2 years ago?

In 1988 somebody told me about F-51D 45-11441 which had the pilot bail out on January 8, 1953 about 5 miles east of Kilgore, Idaho. I have heard the wreckage has never been found.

Probably pancaked into a Wyoming mountain.

N551CB Gary Honbarrier (owner, riding as passenger) and piloted by Jeff Michael flying over NC. Engine failure after coolant problems and both bailed out with less than 1200'. Plane destroyed by post impact fire.

There is also Keven Eldridge jumping from the burning Super Corsair (1994?)

Not a Mustang but the late Art Vance successfully abondoned a burning Corsair back in the early '90s.

I appreciate your effort but I was asking about bailing out of Mustangs specifically. You had no reason to change what I was asking. I know about a couple of Corsairs and a T-6. I am interested in Mustang bailouts.

Which lead to a hilarious exchange with the FAA during a meeting about type ratings at Reno some years back...

Love to hear the rest of that story ZR, but not here as warbird2 would like to keep this thread Mustang related. Sorry for getting it (even more) off track.

Hmmm, we'll have to send that one to the judges.

For the record, it was not Art Vance that bailed out of the Corsair. It was Kevin Eldridge and it was at the Phoenix Air Races.

Hi Cindy,

Art actually bailed out of Ericson's Corsair several years before Kevin bailed out of the Super Corsair. He was on his way to one of our Air Shows in Caldwell, ID with Dan in Million Dollar baby (Speedball Alice), a PBY and I think a Spitfire when the Corsair caught fire and he barley managed to get out of it at very low altitude.

Typical of Art's experiences, believe it or not, there is some humor to the story. Especially when Art told it.

I sit corrected! I never heard about that one. Being so closely connected to CNO, I of course thought about Kevin.

Thanks for the correction/info :)
