Look at this!!!!

About half way down is a similar corsair!

The little piece above the exhaust is nice. A blinder for the pilot. I have never seen that before and obviously a field mod!

Even the 'spinner' is black.., no reflection coming off of this little darling!

Awesome aircraft!

Was this a deflector from the flames for preservation of the pilot's vision?

Its an anti-glare-panel, a special thing for those nightfighting Corsairs. Its factory made for those -5N and -5NL, not a field mod.

Daytimes you wont see those exhaust-fire, cause its nearly "white". By night it looks like a stroboscope and you see nearly nothing when your are looking outside. Its like a permanent flashlight. The flamedampeners are helping a little bit, but not enough for nightaction. With that panels the exhaustfire is not visible for the pilot. MeierMotors will reconstruct this parts for the 124541. A member of this fantastic board sent MeierMotors original drawings of those parts.

it was time for an overhaul and so the owner decided to invest in a "new" engine. The old engine was good, but not in best shape. Now the fighter is in best shape again. They also did some work at the electrical system, revised the fuse-box and some things on the avionics. Now the F4U-5NL is nearly ready for the 2012 season. Hope to see her soon hammering over the airfield again ..... the Corsair rocks :supz:

Matthias,

Did you ever get the Exhaust Flame Dampening Shields installed on the -5NL? I know that you had gotten some information on them last year. When I saw her at Duxford for the 2011 Flying Legends show, I noticed they were not installed.

Look forward to seeing the black "bent wing bird" at Duxford this coming show season.

All the best to you and the team there for a very successful 2012 show season.

Cheers,
Lance

R2800 CB series are pretty popular for Warbirds.

think it was whilest the restauration in France, in the mid nintees.
In fact, nowadays you dont need a twostage anymore and this engine is much easier to maintain
