Wildchild:
Good day!
Your suggestion/idea is quite fisible. A civilian airline using a restored xContra DC-3/C-47 made quite bit of money charging apprx $25 for a 20 Min ride c. Oct 2009! It flew at full capacity all day long!!
There is already some talk by the new & improved admin folks to change the oil, spark plugs and do a complete engine tune-up for a future engine start/crank show. We know of at least two x FAH pilots that would love to take it for a spin w/o asking too many questions.
There was some talk sometime ago also by the Smithsonian offering restoration help in the U.S with the intentions to fly it to AirShows afterwards as a unique..one of kind flying machine due to its significant history but the offer never did materialize with the FAH folks.
You could add another extra seat like the "Red Bulls" F4U-4 was at one time but then you'll changed its original design. Then add the cost of insuring FAH 609!!
Flying it is a long term project & risky , cranking it -up and maybe do some taxiing runs sounds more realistic. I would personally love to see it flying one more time over the Honduran skies poss at San Pedro Sula Air Show with the T-birds as special guest next June 2013!!! I'm sure CB13 we'll be there also as special guest!!
For now we'll be asking Meirs Motors and the Red Bull folks for their support in obtaining funds for a pre-fabricated building (not so fancy) to keep it at least under cover!!~
