I don't see what the big deal is. The aircraft needs restoration attention, and it appears it's going to be getting it. If the crew has the expertise, funds and physical resources to do the job, that's great news. I could care less about the politics surrounding it, as long as the restoration is done properly and the resulting display is adequate. This is an important airframe to the history of Honduras and I'm glad to see it will be getting the attention it deserves.

Drew,

How about you New Englanders hold a fundraiser or two for the restoration project, and in return a rebuilt FAH 609 gets displayed for the first three/five/seven years at the newly-remodeled Connecticut Air & Space Center?

Did I play nice? :D

Well now that sounds like outstanding news. :D Maybe the two fellows who were having the lively debate here on WIX for a spell actually teamed up for the better cause, and possibly a few of us WIX members may actually have had a small part in the action about to be taken as well. You never know!!!

Good luck!!!

DanK,
Nice thought but 609 belongs to the people of Honduras I have reached out to offer any assistance we can provide from Stratford.

Why don't you guys get it flying, along with a DC-3 transport, and tour those 2 around South America? You get paied by offering rides on the DC-3, and if possible make modifications to the Corsair so it can seat 2 people, and there ya go!

Wildchild:

Good day!

Your suggestion/idea is quite fisible. A civilian airline using a restored xContra DC-3/C-47 made quite bit of money charging apprx $25 for a 20 Min ride c. Oct 2009! It flew at full capacity all day long!!

There is already some talk by the new & improved admin folks to change the oil, spark plugs and do a complete engine tune-up for a future engine start/crank show. We know of at least two x FAH pilots that would love to take it for a spin w/o asking too many questions.

There was some talk sometime ago also by the Smithsonian offering restoration help in the U.S with the intentions to fly it to AirShows afterwards as a unique..one of kind flying machine due to its significant history but the offer never did materialize with the FAH folks.

You could add another extra seat like the "Red Bulls" F4U-4 was at one time but then you'll changed its original design. Then add the cost of insuring FAH 609!!

Flying it is a long term project & risky , cranking it -up and maybe do some taxiing runs sounds more realistic. I would personally love to see it flying one more time over the Honduran skies poss at San Pedro Sula Air Show with the T-birds as special guest next June 2013!!! I'm sure CB13 we'll be there also as special guest!!

For now we'll be asking Meirs Motors and the Red Bull folks for their support in obtaining funds for a pre-fabricated building (not so fancy) to keep it at least under cover!!~

No, you may not. And Zorro: I have warned you enough. One more negative comment from you on this subject and you will get banned!
