Thank you so much for presenting a literate, logical, and straightforward explanation of all the facets of what really is/was one of the great question marks of U.S. WW2 aviation. I very much appreciate you taking the time to set this info out for the rest of us!

The CAF TBM that was restored by Jack Kosko's crew is going to be painted to represent a TBM from VMTB-143, of the aforementioned MCAG-2 from the Gilbert Islands in Bill Tate's post. It will eventually be aircraft P87, with the nose art of a pinup known as "Donna Mae" on the cowl.
