I'd mortgage my cat for a P-38

The rumor is that after it was used for publicity stateside, it was stripped of the vermillion paint and sent to the PTO like any regular P-38. And like virtually all P-38's sent to the PTO, it met an inglorious end.

We can't answer the question as to whether any aircraft will be for sale until we know which entity owns which aircraft.
Mr. Smith owns some.
The Museum owns others.
Evergreen may (or may not) own still others.
Still others, like the SR-71, are on loan to the museum.

But since the museum is separate from Evergreen aviation, I wouldn't expect a fire sale.
I don't know about Smith's financial health....he might or might not...sell some of his property.

I figure if you wanted my opinion on items unrelated to this forum, you'd ask for it.

Ownership is pretty easy to find as most of the aircraft are still registered. A search for Evergreen in the aircraft registry part of the FAA website shows the P-38 is registered to Evergreen Vintage Aircrat Inc. I suspect there is a spelling error on part of the FAA there because a lot of the other once flyers (including the B-17) are registered to Evergreen Vintage Aircraft Inc. Moving asset registration from one entity to another when under the investigation eyes like Evergreen is pretty risky. The TBM and trimotor (and only those two) are both owned by Evergreen holdings.

Three if the airplanes are for sale. The P-38, TBM and Tri-motor. I have a feeling that the number of airplanes owned solely by the museum will end up being mostly the stuff on loan from the government, the Spruce Goose and maybe a few others. I'm willing to bet that all the warbirds and some of
The more interesting civilian airplanes are the property of Del Smith, the Airline or one of the many other groups with Evergreen connections. I'd also say that I'd bet that more than one financial institution and government organization might have interest in them also. Along with ALPA and any other group that is owed money by Evergreen.

Has for what belongs to Del or EVG (it's really the same) include B-17, FG, P-40, Spit, 109, P-38, TBM, T-28, A-22, Tri-Motor, DC-3, DH-4, SNJ, S-2B, Stinson, PT-17, P-51 ect. Once you subtract Del/EVGs and the gov't's there's not much left that truly belongs to the museum. I've been told a number of times by people I know at the museum that their biggest fear ing walking in to find a empty building! That day seems to be coming!
