NASM?

A great idea but where would they display this huge aircraft?

A huge $40mil addition at one end or the other of the hangar possibly? Im sure if it we're an actual option, they'd have engineers come in.

I was working for Kermit the first time the Spruce Goose came up for sale, '91 or '92, and he seriously considered it then. There was a lot of interesting talk then about how to get it to Florida...

According to Wikipedia, the Spruce Goose was relocated via "barge, train, and truck" from Long Beach, CA to its current location in Oregon. I figure an operation like that would have been documented and published by someone. I'd be curious to find out if they had to segment the plane in a way that destroyed its airworthiness. Regardless, I suppose if it was moved once, it can be moved again. It seems like something that the NASM should have in its collection IMO.

Back to the P-38, anyone know of anyone who is inquiring about this 38? Again Kermit Weeks may want to cut out the whole complete restoration thing on his own example and just go for a flyer, then sell the wreck he has. Anyone else looking into this bird?

It was a cover story in Air Classics at the time, with lots of photo coverage.

I know a couple of interested folks that have inquired about the P-38. Not much I can tell you though.
