Not sure about VC-3 NP #2 but we think we know about F4U-5N NP #1 (yes numero 1). Poss the FAH 602!! Buno 124447. We have been tracking this bird for a some time. Glenn Hyde restored it to a perfect flying condition, to include the radome. c. 1986. Photos soon!

NP F4U-5N Folks:

Good day!

Question about the NP sequence/Reg numbers on a NAVY VC-3 - VC-4 SQ:

When a Corsair from VC-3 for instance #16 got shot down during a mission or lost at sea/accident... does that F4U-5N got replaced within weeks with the same NP Reg number of the previous aircraft or got a new one??

Grreat source of info, Tks

Those - 5N pilots for sure earned their pay. There is a hangar at Moffett Field (Blimp Hangar) that at one time housed numerous NP F4U-5N Corsairs. The highest # seen is #51 so far. Do you have a copy of that picture?? I'm looking for NP #30 which later become FAH 609!! Buno 124715.

Tks in advance

Spectacular! You don't see Corsairs in NMF or silver paint that often. I can only think of a very few:

*A -1A apparently pieced together from wrecks by Service Squadron 11 in the Pacific in WWII.

*A couple of RNZAF -1s, probably postwar.

*A slightly modified -1D carrying race #94 in the '70s.

*The "Blue Max" -7, between paint jobs, around 1980.

And now this one, which is beautiful! Thanks for posting!
