We talked about Topeka... but if I recall... you can't fly in there commercially - one of the 'stipulations'. I'd suggest the old NAS at Olathe, KS Lots of hotels, lots of non-aviation spouse entertainment, etc.

Edit:
I think I read that wrong, I'll get my mind out of the gutter.

Well fellows that is one thing I don't have to worry about, my wife loves these old planes, & enjoys being around them. (Glad I got that going for me)

As for me, you could hold the event in Nome. Too many P-51D's out there already...spamcan of the warbird world. :P

 "Too many P-51D's out there", "spamcan of the warbird world"...

Heretic...... :P

Ok, Ok; the P-51 was around at the end to help win the war, but it never could have happened if the round-motor guys hadn't already shot down all the decent enemy pilots. Everybody knows that Mustang pilots only shot down teenagers.

Round rules--pointy drools (again).

Another thing that I remember about their site selection was that it had to be in an area that had a fairly open area surrounding the immediate airport for formation work and general VFR flight without being close to a big Class B airport like DFW (I know, Denver has a big ol' one of them too!) and it also had to have a LARGE amount of open ramp or land to have them on... as far as I know, with the exception of Mineral Wells, aren't most of the Dallas / Ft. Worth airports pretty full o' planes on all ramps and surfaces? (eg: Addison, Meacham, etc). Combine with that, the airport had to be fairly close to existing hotels and accomodations to house the 50,000 plus people and pilots... so Mineral Wells is out :-)

Actually the airspace North of DFW is wide open. That is where I fly. Denton (DTO) is just North of DFW and has a 7000 ft. runway with plenty of ramp space... not too busy... control tower... plenty of hotels around. The 50th anniv. of the Globe Swift was held there with about 300 airplanes in attendance!

Another GREAT place would be Grayson Country airport (Sherman, TX - North of Dallas) which is the old Perin AFB. HUGE runways with HUGE ramp space... control tower... and a great airport manager!!! Unlimited Air Races were held there back in 1990 or 1991.

I know I may be wasting my time reviewing all this here but again... where ever it is.... I am going.

Mudge,

Ok, Tyler, Texas....KTYR. Open air space, served by Screaming Eagle and ASE I think. Plenty of ramp space and an hour from here. 8)

Move it all to Oslo, Norway. We have some nice sunny summers (every once in a while!), some very hot blondes  , areas without much air traffic, and I feel lazy....

Mustang Round Up

Fri Mar 10, 2006 1:21 am

I'm all for Rickenbacker International, lots of ramp space, lots of room for flying and photo missions, hotels, and airports close by. A fly-by over the Air Force Museum, P-47's... P-38's... B-25's...B-17... with-in 1-2 hour's away to join in the event. I guess we will all have to wait and see, it will be a great event where ever it is held.

Moffett Field. Nuff Said!

Walking from home to the big Mustang show, eating good chow, ahhhh, the airspace thing probably won't work. Oh well.

Number 2 choice.

San Marcos.

Middle- check
Good airspace- check
Good BBQ- check
Good Beer- Check
Warm- Check
Nice lookin Women- Check

I done figured it out. I be smart.

(Actually I'm cool with Reno or Denver, I got a place to stay in both places)
