Im really glad to see things are being saved, but yet Im still worried about the big sticks. If they can move a B-47 someone can move the WV-2,C-97,-133

It sounded like the WV-2 is going somewhere though I don't recall where. I am very disappointed to hear that anything is being scrapped. Possibly just the size of them might be their downfall, the B-47 fuselage should fit on a lowboy trailer (width-wise, though it will probably be cut up length-wise to do it) but the C-133 is huge. What's even more sad is the rarity of the C-133 to begin with, only 50 ever built. While losing the C-47 and HU-16 forever shouldn't happen, it's almost criminal to lose something as rare as the Cargomaster.

Absolutely!!!! I am very fond of lessor know aircraft and the C-133 is one of my favorite cold war big sticks. Only 5 survive! Losing one is bad!

Sounds like the last plane to find a home is the HU-16 Albatross. Lets hope someone can save her! Or maybe the USAF would relenquish ownership perhaps?

If they have been claimed, it has not been made public. The destinations I included were based upon news articles and earlier posts in this thread. Again any corrections and additions are welcome.

The A-4, yes. The USAF never operated the type.
The A-7D would be Air Force. They had the "D" models...

Drove over to Chanute today to catch the musuem before it closes for good.

All Coast Aircraft Recovery was there taking apart the B-25, F-84F and F-100.

The P-51H, AT-6 and F-84 left in the last two days.

The engines were off of the Albatross and it looked like someone was working on it.

The C-47 had cowlings off and the side door was down...looked like someone was working on it as well.

According to the docent he F-86A is still destined to be scrapped.

Too bad they couldn't make it work, the base is so historic and much of it is still intact.

Crap, the Mustang is already gone??

Why are all the aircraft leaving if the museum is still "open"?

I hate to see any of the planes scrapped, but if it is inevitable, how can one purchase pieces?
