Here is Erickson's "109" with the Allison hanging on the front...

If it is all working out as intended, the prop/spinner is in the same location as a stock Bf-109G and maintaining the same thrust line, and when cowled-up, it should appear as a stock Bf-109G (custom exhaust from the Allison routed out through the same locations as in a stock Bf-109G).

So excited for this one. If successful, I hope this Allison package becomes available for other Hispano 109 projects out there. So they can have the same balance of historical authenticity from the outside and a more reliable, cheaper, powerplant alternative on the inside. Bravo!

Think about all the different engines Bf-109 variants and derivatives have flown behind. I can think of Kestrel, DB601, DB605, Jumo 211 (Avia S.199), 12Z-17 and Merlin (HA-1112), and now, an Allison!

I'm seeing 7 different powerplants from your list! I wonder if any other airframe has had more powerplants attached to it?

Add to them the HS 12Z-89 (first 25 HA´s) and the Jumo 210 (109 A-D) as far as series go. (ok, Kestrel wasn´t series, but prototype, V1). There was even an prototype with an R-1830 Twin Wasp SC-G (1200 hp), V21,(c/n 1770, D-IFKQ), and another prototype with a BMW 801 A-0, Bf 109 X (c/n 5608, D-ITXP). So even more different engines. Maybe, if Spain would have got the Allison, they would have gone for that version?

So we're now up to 10 different powerplants for the 109 airframe. 11 if you count the Allison. :shock:

redvanner: Excellent information! Thank you! The radial engine changes the look of the '109 quite a bit, along with that different canopy.
