I took this shot at an airshow several years ago and later placed the text into it, as it's appropriate for today, I think:

I've no idea if this question has ever been asked on WIX... Was the Japanese task force able recover all of the aircraft returning from the attack on Pearl or did any splash in the Pacific?

The Japanese did lose 29 aircraft as I recall. Most of the losses occurred during the second wave when the Americans were able to man their guns and respond. I really dont know if there was any accidents when the aircraft returned to their carriers. You would think there would have to be a loss or two there.

Peral Harbor day but don't forget that No 1 Sqn RAAF Hudson bombers attacked the Japanese Malaya invasion fleet five hours before the Pearl attack. Several Hudsons lost...

We were all brothers in arms in this conflict...

The live stream of the (2) Type A Ko-hyoteki midget subs was pretty interesting.

I've seen the stills from the 2005 expedition, but, the live video feed was dramatic.

Video excerpts from the 2016 dive on the midget sub sunk by the USS Ward:
http://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/news/press/japanese-mini-subs/minisub1.mp4

Hopefully, the complete video will be archived and posted to YouTube soon.

It was noted that there was a fair amount of artifact deterioration since the last survey in 2005. Keep in mind that the metal of these midget subs were designed to resist the marine environment.

Imagine what is going on with aircraft in salt water... some 75 years later.

Pretty interesting. Had to look around a little bit to find out about the No 1 Sqn. The review of this 2006 book by John Burton talks about it.

did any splash in the Pacific?
Yes, a Zero was found underwater off shore in deep water

...there were five aircraft to splash in Pearl Harbor water.
Two D3A in Middle Loch, One B5N in Southeast Loch, and two B5N in the south channel

What's the history of the P-64 and Ford Tri-Motor related to Pearl Harbor?
