Pima update (Now with warbirds)

Thu Sep 20, 2018 1:42 pm

Since people were interested in the 777 I decided to show you all what else we've been up to lately.

Sea Knight getting a fresh paint job.

The TH-55 we've had in storage for a long time got new glass and will be repainted in its Army markings.

The SH-60B should be going into restoration in the next month or so for fresh paint. The original artist will be coming out to repaint the scorpion.

Reassembly work on our FA.2 Sea Harrier.

And the second Harrier we have being reassembled at the moment. This one is a GR.5 of the RAF.

Two more recent arrivals waiting to go into the paint shop.

The Il-2 is making good progress at this point.

We've also started putting the A-20 back together.

James - How is the Bf 109 progressing? And any idea when the P-47 will be back from Australia? I enjoyed seeing the P-40 a couple of weeks ago, another great restoration!

The 109 is waiting on parts we're having made for us in Germany. Hopefully the next couple of months will see some more progress on it. The P-47 will be quite some time yet.

Are they planning by on using the 777 for anything?
Storage, meeting rooms....birthday parties? :)
I appreciate it would be tough to cool for frequent use, but there is a lot of space in there.

Are they recovering any valuable bits from it?
If so, what...and who...Cathay Pacific or Pima?

We do not plan to have the aircraft open to the public. The plane will be externally complete but he passenger cabin was stripped to the bare walls by Cathay Pacific before flying it here. Boeing and Cathay are working now to take a fairly long list of other internal components that were needed for the flight.

Excellent acquisitions and restorations. This collection may rank as the #1 aviation museum in the world in the diversity of its exhibits (role, era, nation of origin). Something I never would have predicted 30 years ago when it was just a one-of-everything appendage of the boneyard.
