This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Courtesy & Tolerance
I will bet that everyone’s Mother and Father raised them to be courteous and respectful of other people.
I will also bet that we all like to be treated with courtesy & respect.
When I post on this forum, I really do not expect everyone to agree with me, but I certainly don’t expect them to be disagreeable when they don’t.
This terrific forum attracts people with a mutual interest in, and love of, Warbirds. We have far more in common than the things which are not common.
In our postings on this forum, why can’t we all act with courtesy and tolerance as we should in the world we would like to live in? Why then do too many of us act so rudely and so outrageously intolerant (occasionally even hateful) in this forum? There are too many days when I can not believe what people post on this forum. My mother would be embarrassed, and I bet at least some of yours would be also.
Do you honestly want to make this forum the worst type of world that none of us want to live in?
I am all for lively and spirited debate & discussion…it is the increasingly rough tone that troubles me.
Please, let your future postings on other topics be more courteous and tolerant.
Thank-you Scott for hosting this entertaining and informational forum. It is the best postings that keep me coming back.

John,
I concur with your posting. Courtesy and tolerance seem to be out of fashion in the world these days. And, at least for Scott's efforts here on the board, everyone is pretty cool about their topic's of discussion. Even though everyone here comes at their perspective from many angles. Pilots, owners, mechanic's, volunteers, folks who "were there" when the planes were new, and enthusiast's. Alot of what gets said here, it seems, is from a vastly varied perspective. And it should be respected. Not nessacarily agreed upon, but respected nonetheless.
My two cents,
Paul

Haven’t really noticed any disrespect so far. I came to this forum, a few days ago now, to learn. Occasionally my "bad attitude" from being a young guy may seem like im just trying to be a know it all. But I don't, and from what I have read, I don't know $&!t3.
This forum is great; no place else can I get the scoop whats going on in the warbird community.

I have no problem with courtesy and tolerance, as long as I’m dealing with a lucid and rational person. However, I have no patience for “know it alls” and “self anointed experts” who disgorge incorrect and misleading information on the rest of us. Warbirds are too important and fragile to adopt a posture of appeasement when dealing with the crazy.

I'm still somewhat new to this forum but I've been very impressed with how polite and tolerant folks are on this site. If you want to see what real rudeness & intolerance is like...just go to the flypast forum and witness the mud-slinging and personal attacks. Pretty nasty!!!

Steve,
I think one needs to be polite even when disagreeing. I think John's point is more to
being the higher standard, regardless of what the others do. His point is more 'Go ahead, disagree, state the reasons for that disagreement, but don't make the response a personal attack on the poster with whom one disagrees. Because in the long run, it is always possible that oneself is the person in error, and I, at least, would like to be told so gently and with courtesy.
=R=
p.s. The twisted grammar is an attempt to state the position without making it look like a personal comment to Steve, which it most definitely is not.

I appreciate your comments, and definately don't feel you have attacked me in any manner.
I agree that debate should be civil and respectful, at least in the beginning. Once the gloves come off, however, I make no promises.
I do agree with the tone of this thread; namely that we need to be civil to try and engage as many new and interested members as possible in warbirds. That can only be a positive thing in the long run for all of us.

While I agree with the spirit of your comments, Steve, I must take respectful exception to the "incorrect info" portion. I'd like to see that amended/clarified , lest someone, who may have pertinent info to add to a discussion decide not to post because he's unsure of his info.
Case in point, I remember doing a heckuva lot of cut-and-paste of FAR's a while back, to prove a point. In the course of that *correct* info, I made an error which Glenn Wegman corrected, regarding "flowing" of carburetors. Hopefully those types of errors were not what you had in mind (I'm sure not, I have a pretty good idea who/what you are talking about.)
I just wanted to clarify the point that, even if we think we *know* something cold, all of us can still learn from each other so long as it's polite & civil, so folks shouldn't be afraid to post stuff!!

Hi Jase,
It was not my intention that my comments would discourage people from posting information that they feel is correct. I was trying to show that we all have a duty to confront “internet bullies”; those who shout rhetoric and opinion without the ability or desire to consider, or even listen to, alternative viewpoints.
Often this occurs when you have a very young person posting on the forum, who lacks the maturity to engage in civil debate. Luckily we seem to have an excellent group of young people who frequent this site, which I feel bodes well for the future of warbirds.

Not sure I know what your talking about....but lets all realize that a posting can be taken 1,000 different ways, depending on what type of mood the READER is in NOT the writer in some cases.
Anyhow, I love this board, never been P.O. at anyone, other than myself for asking some stupid questions sometimes.
I say rule of thumb, before starting a pissing contest, PM the person to clarify things before starting it in the main forum.
Just my 2 Pennies.
Lets get back on the subject of planes.

Why bring it to the main forum at all? When the "issue" has been settled and the discussion is again constructive, that is the time to return to the main forum.

That is what I just said.

Classic example of another reason why things can go pear shaped....there are many posters who don't have English as a first language. Something 'understood' by most can be badly misunderstood by others....an example of this on the FP thread about the P-51 loosing its canopy in Germany.
I actually took your post the same way as Christer did..and English is mine!

If I may borrow from a couple of great TV shows:
"Is this the right room for an argument?"
"Just the facts M'am."
Meanwhile back on the other threads...
