I just returned from Reading, saw a couple of Wix'ers at the show. It was pour weather fri and sat, not sure if the weather gods have it out for this show or what (3 or 4 years in a row now) but today was good weather.
The Russell aircraft were no shows becouse of the weather and Clymans P-40 and P-47 for the same reason. But the Lanc made it. I really hope Russ made
some good money this year on the show so we can see some of thier other aircraft get back in the air (C-47, 404) and help the P-61 with funding alittle.

I made the show on Saturday. It was very overcast but the rain held off. I got to see the Lancaster fly which was the only reason I went on such a poor day. I had a great time despite the weather. Kudos to the show organizers!

I didn't think Saturday was too bad. The airshow portion was disappointing. The only reason we stayed over on Sunday was in hopes that the 109 would show up. Seeing it fly was really the only reason we went.
Yeah...yeah...I understand about weather, mechanicals, etc. but that doesn't keep me from being disappointed. Stayed for about 15 minutes of the "Swing Fever" band on Sat. evening. Had to leave. They started playing and we looked at each other and grimaced. "Maybe they'll get better." WRONG...They're TERRIBLE.
Anyway...picked up some nice artwork. Also got a picture of some of the 506th PIR, Easy Co. "Band of Brothers" signed by "Shifty" Powers and Forest Guth. "Wild Bill" Guarnier was supposed to be there but never showed.
Walked...er...CRAWLED through the Lanc. Pretty cool.
Had to get a little hostile with a couple of people who kept jumping up in front of us to take pictures. People just don't really give a rat's a-- that they're blocking everyone behind them. They can't seem to understand that they can't see anything while they're standing up that they can't see sitting down. Told one guy that I didn't come all this way to get pictures of his butt. (Yeah...I'm bigger than him.)
I love the airshows but am getting fed up with many of the people that go to 'em. (Understand that only those of us that are perfect can critisize.

I hear ya Mudge. At Chino we got there before the gates opened so that we could claim a good spot up against the ropes. We sat our chairs as close to the ropes as we could without setting on top of them and still, as soon as the flying started, people would push past us sitting in our chairs and stand right in front of us! I guess they figured we must not be interested in the show if we were just going to sit there! My brother and I finally got fed up so we started a conversation with each other about how we did not get up at 5AM and sit out in the sun all day to look at other people's backsides. Needless to say, we made sure that the conversation was loud enough for the offenders to hear and I think they got the point.

As a side note....I got to listen to it via the 1940's music channel on my XM satellite radio all weekend. They said they were broadcasting live from the airshow. Very interesting program including period news broadcasts and interviews about rationing and warbond drives....

Anyone with pictures from this event? Did they pull out the P-61 again?

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

Can anyone help me with a few IDs?

#1: There were two DH Doves in the gulley behind the museum. One was c/n 04380 c/r N557JC. What was the other one?

#2: What was the c/r of the brown C-47 marked "D8"?

#3: What is the c/r of the T-6 marked "40", "PENSACOLA" and "KR"? I think it starts with "N2___".

#4: What is the c/r of the Stearman marked "69", "U.S. NAVY", "8366", "VN2S-1"?

I grab'd shots of S# or N# of most of the A/C there. I'll look them up when I get home. I plan to process my pictures tonight. Plus there were very few "new" a/c there.

mike,

if that C47 was also marked Z 349926 on the tail, I have it as 43-49926 c/n 17187 a C47-B-20-DK
