Within that area there are 2 A-4s and the A-7 on the stick. I'm trying to figure out how to get the location to update. So I can post those and the NAS Lemoore Location.

I've sent an update to Mike which I'll list here. And yes, I goofed on my memory and called the A-7 an F-8. It does not have a s/n on it, nor have I heard from anyone that knew it's correct number. There was an A-4B on display next to it, but it vanished a few years ago, it was identified as (15)5247. The encinal High School A-4C was on display at the same time, and is still there, it is BuN. 148610.

My info to Mike:

>Merced Airport: Lockheed T-33 - it is a P-80, not T-33, Pole mounted at the airport entrance
>Watts-Woodland: T-37 Tweet - Pole mounted next to the golf course
>Sonoma County Airport (Schellville) Lockheed PV-2 - forgot the Douglas DST, Privately owned but easily viewable on the property
>Nut Tree Airport: Lockheed 18, UH-1, Lockheed/Howard Tri-Gear - privately owned but viewable on the ramp/airport

Are the examples in this list all all privately owned? Or maybe a few of
them are gate guards, pole mounted etc?

>Alameda (ex NAS) F-8 Crusader - Pole mounted

Is this one part of the USS Hornet Museum? NO

>Mather Airport : two Russian helo's - privately owned but viewable on airport property

Owned by a company?

>Amador Airport - RF-86F-25-NA s/n 62-6416 ex JASDF - Veterans organization, don't remember which one

Amador Airport in Jackson, CA ??? Is this the name of a town?

>Fresno Airport - ANG base - dozen military a/c SAME as below

Is this the same one as the Fresno Air Terminal? I think there is only 6
airframes displayed - according to my pictures, F-86L as 0-30642, F-86A as 91272, P-51D actual 44-73972, F-104 as 31804, F-106 as 90146, F-4D as 50588, and T-33 unknown s/n.

New addition, at Stockton Airport at a Veterans Club house, there is a helo there, that I recall was an AH-1 Cobra

I have a few follow-on questions to Roger's info. Maybe someone here knows the answers.

>New addition, at Stockton Airport at a Veterans Club house, there is a
>helo there, that I recall was an AH-1 Cobra

Helicopters are hard to pick out using Google Earth, especially the narrow AH-1. Do you suppost this is it?... 38 00 42.85 N 121 17 41.91 W

>> Merced Airport: Lockheed T-33
> Pole mounted at the airport entrance

Do you suppose this is it? 37 17 29.57 N 120 30 52.51 W It doesn't look too much like an airplane, but the resolution in this area is not good.

>> Amador Airport
> RF-86F-25-NA s/n 62-6416 ex JASDF - Veterans organization, don't
> remember which one

Just to confirm... this is NOT the one at the Estrella Warbird Museum? There is no AMVETS in Jackson, CA, where the Amador Airport is. Duncan Curtiss has two possibilities for this one...

#1 RF-86F Paso Robles, noted Jun98. This aircraft has the tail of F-86F 55-5019, other parts of F-86F 55-5082 and the forward fuselage of an RF-86F (thought to be 52-4758 [ex-JASDF 52-6401] or 52-5439 [ex-JASDF 62-6416]). Ex-China Lake.

#2 F-86F Jackson, Amador County Airport - presumably ex-China Lake.

Comments anyone?

Mike

Google Earth is nice, but it's not a bible.

Merced is a P-80, my earlier mistake calling it a T-33. Trust me on this, yes there is a P-80 in that spot, I saw it there last month and for the past 20 years.
37 17 29.57 N 120 30 50.74 W

Paso Robles (EWM) and Amador County Airport (Wendover Field) are probably 200 miles apart from each other.
Info directly off the plane: F-86F-25-NH, USAF 62-6416 (ex JASDF 562855)
38 22 36.66 N 120 47 47.16 W

Picture at Stockton Airport is a Cobra: 37 53 23.36 N 121 14 52.90 W

Amen to that!

Google Earth is no substitue for being there, but since I am not in a position to buy an airline ticket, pay for a rental car and hotels, well... zooming across the country via Google will have to do for now. Thanks for filling in the gaps and making the corrections. I appreciate the help.

I will likely update the page on Monday. I have just started a long weekend. I need to finish an article for a magazine that I have been promising for a while.

Found the airplanes at NAS Lemoore as I've been to the base twice. Once for the airshow and once to photograph the static airplanes in 1990. The static park is at N36degrees15'24.84" w119degrees 54'9". It's west of the 41 and the 198 highways, east of the 5 at Harris Ranch, follow the 198 going east and you will see the base, the static park is just inside the base main gate.

Mike, Just remembered another one, it's only been there a few years. It is an F-104 Starfighter that is mounted on a pole at the entrance to Grass Valley Airport.

Not viewable on google, but it's point location is at
39 13 21.71 N 121 00 18.08 W

Thanks Roger! I have made the appropriate changes.

I found the planes using your coordinates. It looks like they are inside the main gate. I would guess they are not accessible to the pulbic now, but I included them in the list anyway with that warning. Thanks!

Thanks again Roger!

I have updated the locator including the California section...
http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.html#USA_CA

I'll continue adding new entries from my notes later today.

I have a few more questions about the California museums.

#1: What about the Camarillo Connie. I found the website. Do they have their own hangar? Is it generally accessible to the public? If so where? (coordinates)

#2: Is there anything displayed in El Centro?

Camarillo Connie is now in Switzerland with Breitling.

The other Connie is going to Yanks I've heard. None of these were in a hangar at Camarillo that I am aware of. I don't think the remaining Connie is accessable.

Thanks Brandon!

It is good enough for me to know the Connies are no longer there as far as I am concerned. I'll make a note in the locator there was once the organization there, but no longer is.

Can anyone shed any light on El Centro?

Mike

Pardon me if I missed it, but there is an F-105 on Mather Field in Sacramento. It's on the North side of Peter A. McCuen Blvd. just to the east of Mather Field Road, in front of a building. I believe the AF serial # is: 63-8278.
Blue skies,

I didn't list the F-105 at Mather, as I didn't see it there during the Air show back in April, but maybe you've seen it in more recent times? There were also a pair of Russian MI-14's there also, but didn't see them either?

There is a Banshee at Napa County Airport, pole mounted. At least it was there a couple years ago.
