This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

The Snort cockpit is from a Vigilante, don't know the Buno. It's at Sandquist gate. The museum on base has Hornet #1, an A-6E, TA-4J, A-7E and an RF-4. An F-86 Drone and a Spad are out on the airfeild waiting to be finished and placed up at the Museum. I beleive the Spad came from the museum in New England?

The "other" B-29 is in the storage yard out by the airfeild.

There's an F-4 on a pole at the intersection of Lancaster Blvd and Sierra Hwy in Lancaster (at least it was there a few years ago the last time I drove by there!)

Yes it is, although it is not bad yet. There is also the possibility I may be spending some time in sunny CA. I thought I would do my homework before going!

Obviously I am still not done. I haven't even started surfing the net for anything I may have missed. Here is my latest set of questions. Thanks in advance for any assitance you can provide. Once done, the California section of the museum/site locator will be the most detailed one on the web.

EDIT: See my latest post for the latest version of the list.

Might I suggest using http://live.local.com for aircraft ID purposes? I'm not usually a big proponent of microsoft products, but in this case they provide access to much better, and newer pictures.

When checking out a site, use the "Birds eye view" picture. As an example:

http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=r16byv816hq8&style=o&lvl=2&scene=5661922 There's the Yankee air park. If you can't do decent aircraft ID's at that distance, you may want to change your hobby :D.

The bird's eye view pics aren't available everywhere, but they tend to be les than a year old. (Those particular shots were done last fall on a weekday, probably late in the morning.)

I'll try back again, but currently it does not appear to be working.

I have uploaded the latest edition of the California aviation museams/sites lists. It may be found at...
http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.html#USA_CA

I most cases where I am missing information or need confirmation I have included a "NEED HELP" note that will stand out on that page. I have included a few questions below that the page does not include.

TIA for any assistance that anyone can provide.

Mike

#1: Cinema Air, Carlsbad - Is Cinema Air still operating? If so what airframes do they operate?

#2: Moffett Field – Are there any other aircraft displayed at Moffett Field other than the P-2, P-3 and the U-2 at the NASA Exploration Center?

#3: Where is Military Aircraft Restoration based?

The following questions regard Edwards AFB…

Apparently you can now arrange to go on a tour of the base, but apparently the museum is still off limits except to base personnel.

#4.1: Is this the location of the museum? 34 54 05.95 N 117 52 09.18 W Even though there appears to be some vintage aircraft parked on the ramp, the location of the B-52 and B-1s near by make me think not.

I would think most of the base is off limits (with exception of the guided tour). However, Google Earth does make it possible to find some of the displayed aircraft…

#4.1: Does this look like an F-104? 34 55 25.34 N 117 54 29.71 W

#4.2: From the shadow, this one looks like a U-2… 35 55 28.17 N 117 53 55.90 W Do you agree?

#4.3: These look like an F-86 and F-15… 34 55 18.33 N 117 53 37.53 W Do you agree?

#4.4: Another F-104 or perhaps a Douglas Skystreak? 34 55 00.82 N 117 54 01.67 W

#4.5: T-33 I think… 34 55 03.21 N 117 53 57.24 W

#4.6: I have no clue as to what this one is… 34 57 01.96 N 117 53 15.88 W

#4.7: An SR-71 or A-12… 34 57 05.25 N 117 53 20.11 W

#4.8: Four airframes displayed… 34 57 07 88 N 117 53 18.47 W

#4.9: What the heck is this? 34 57 09.84 N 117 53 27.17 W

Wasn't this the operating name of Tom Friedkin's collection at one time? If so, the aircraft are currently based at Chino with 'Planes of Fame' under the 'Chino Warbirds Inc' name.

Here's an article mentioning the move.

3. They have a hanger at Chino right around the corner from Areo Trader.

4. No that's not the museum. It's located on the road in. I don't have the newer verison of windows so I can't get google earth. I'll look it up later on my brother's pc.

The museum is open to the public if you are doing business with Edwards or you're on the tour. I have an easier time getting on the base becasue I take my brother with me and he's retired AF.

The planes out there are "special" planes.

Also the live.local.com doesn't have clear shots of Edwards like google does.

I was out at the Moffett Field Museum today, and the Kyper C-141 is currently parked at the south end of Hangar 1

Below your listing these two as seperate items? There isn't, nor has been a T-33 on display there:

U.S.A. California Woodland Watts-Woodland Golf Course Map Unconfirmed Information: T-33 displayed.

It should read as one (ya made me pull the book out):

U.S.A. California Woodland Watts-Woodland Golf Course Map
East end of the Watts-Woodland Airport
OA-37 Tweet (s/n 73-1114)

Yup, right at Chino. Not really open for display though.

No.

Yes.

#4.2: From the shadow, this one looks like a U-2… 35 55 28.17 N 117 53 55.90 W Do you agree?

Please check that location. Should be 34 55 28.17 N 117 53 55.90 W. That is the P-59 in front of the base library.

#4.3: These look like an F-86 and F-15… 34 55 18.33 N 117 53 37.53 W Do you agree?

#4.4: Another F-104 or perhaps a Douglas Skystreak? 34 55 00.82 N 117 54 01.67 W

F104 on a stick

#4.5: T-33 I think… 34 55 03.21 N 117 53 57.24 W

Yes.

#4.6: I have no clue as to what this one is… 34 57 01.96 N 117 53 15.88 W

That is the X-1E in front of the NASA complex.

#4.7: An SR-71 or A-12… 34 57 05.25 N 117 53 20.11 W

The building just north east next to the four planes in a line is the museum.

#4.8: Four airframes displayed… 34 57 07 88 N 117 53 18.47 W

34 57 07.88 N 117 53 18.47 W at the museum.

#4.9: What the heck is this? 34 57 09.84 N 117 53 27.17 W

Looks like a dirt road leading to an antenna tower????

At the corner of Forbes and E. Rosamond is a storage area that the Piper Enforcer used to sit in back in the early 1990s.
