I always wondered

I always wondered, why build a 3/4 scale aircraft, why not go all out and do full scale replica? Is it really that much cheaper to build 1/4 less?

Probably not from a materials stand point but I'll bet the powerplants for a 3/4 scale are much more plentiful and substantially less. A 3/4 scale 109 could probably be made to fly well on just a couple of hundred horsepower. At full scale I bet that number goes up 3 or 4 times at least and 6 or 7 times if you want to match the power of the full size. There are not too many available powerplants that can produce upwards of 750 hp and still fit in the nose of a 109, and I'd bet none of what is applicable is "cheap".

PS- The last Mustang on the list is said to be in single seat configuration with dual controls added. What the heck does that mean?

I think that means that it has some controls in back, but is not the full dual control setup with instruments in back and the extended (ugly) canopy.

Me 109 for sale - there is one for sale

Mon May 10, 2004 5:06 pm

High all

I think there actually is one for sale here - in Sydney I think- a real one. It was one of a couple of projects brought in from Russia via Canada or somewhere and is apparently up fpr sale again - Graham Orphan would know the details as it was mentioned in Classic wings in the article on 109 survivors lately.

Might be nice if the site was updated occasionally, P51D G-SIRR was sold over a year ago and exported back to America.

Yuck...that's suppossed to be a 109?

109G

More like 109-ish instead of 109G. That canopy no doubt works a lot better than a scale canopy with all of the heavy bracing but it sure doesn't do anything for the overall looks.

I have also seen in USA some really cool scaled down 109:s. Have you ?

Right !

Does that have a V-6 or V-8 engine on it ? Erla haube canopy would look cooler !
I think there is another venture too....sorry. I saw it years ago in WARBIRDS mag.

Hi all,
I think 3/4 scale aircraft are built primarily for MTOW restrictions regarding registration. But I concur that the overall costs do probably play an important part.

Those miller 109's sure look good. It's a shame they're not interested in producing any more flying examples.

Forget the 109 - I WANT THE F-100!! LOL - for the love of $385K!! I spoke with Randy Ball about this plane - he flys a Mig-17 for Jetfighters Inc?? Anyway, he said the F-100 is a beauty to fly but a holy B***H to maintain - difficult and expensive brakes, electronic components add up to a $1000 per hour flying cost.

Anyway - does anyone want to help me out with a 0% interest rate??
