Seeing yesterday's thread about a new Spitfire in Canada got me to thinking about who has a current list of Spitfires in North America? I know Mr Blair in Florida recently obtained one so I would just like an updated list. Thanks.

Here's a list of the airworthy Spits I can think of in North America. Feel free to add to the list as I may be missing a few. All info is from the Warbird Registry

MK VC AR614- Paul Alllen's Flying Heritage Collection, WA
MK Vb BL628- Rod Lewis, San Antonio, TX
MK Vc JG891- Tom Blair, Kissimee, FL
MK VIIIc MT719- Cavanaugh Flight Museum, Addison, TX Airworthy but not flown
MK IXe MJ730- Fighter Factory, Suffolk, VA
MK IXc MK712- The Russell Group, ON
MK IXc MK959- Tom Duffy, Millville, NJ
MK IXe ML417- Tom Friedkin, Chino, CA
MK IXc PL344- Tom Blair, Kissimee, FL- Apparently based at Duxford
TR MK IX TE308- Bill Greenwood, CO- Damaged and not currently airworthy
Mk XIV SM832- Tom Friedkin, Chino, CA
Mk XIV RN201- Tom Balir, Kissimee, FL
MK XIV NH749- ??? Formerly with David Price,is this the one now owned by Tom Friedkin?
MK XIVe- TZ138- Robert Jens, BC
MK XVIe SL721- Michael Potter/ Vintage Wings of Canada, Ottawa, ON
MK XVIe TE392- Lone Star Flight Museum, Galveston, TX
MK XVIe TE476- Kermit Weeks/ Fantasy of Flight, Polk City, FL
MKXVIIIe TP280- Rudy Frasca, Urbana, IL

And I have some questions on a couple others:

Tom Friedkin has a MK XIV, does anyone know which airframe it is?
I aslo think Tom Blair has either a XIV or a XVI, does anyone have any more info?
There is also the TR MK IX recently restored by Harry Stenger, is this aircraft still in the U.S.?

off the top off my head:

Bob Jens rarely flown MK XIV in Vancouver. (Airworthy)
Mike Potters immaculate and often flown SL721 MK XVI in Gatineau. (Airworthy)
The National museum Mk IX, in Rockcliffe. (Static)
The MKIX with Ed Russell, in Ontario. (Airworthy)
The "newly discovered" SL542 in Quebec, which was apparently not such a secret. (Restoration project)
The semi new build Y2K, which is a real testament to dedication, in Comox. (Restoration Project)
Canadian Warplane heritage had an ex CAF aircraft which was reported destroyed in a fire, maybe something remains? not sure. (Remains?)
I thought there was a complete one in Calgary, but again, not sure. (Static?)

This covers Canada, North America is a much larger subject!

I am sure there are many who can expand, confirm and elaborate on this list.

PeterA would know.

Just remember this rule about Spits.
If PeterA hasn’t seen it… It doesn’t exist.

The CAF example was not an "ex CAF ". It was up there for engine work when it caught in the fire.

Now with the CAF, based at Camarillo but awaiting an overhauled engine before it flies again.

Maybe I overlooked it, but did anyone mention Jim Smith's Mk47 Seafire?

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.
