Hey Hogdriver is it possible you could give us a headsup when the first testflights are gonna happen. Im from Rockford and know a couple other local aviation nuts who would love to watch and shoot some pics of the Flankers! Thanks

i had to re-read that a few times myself. i think they are saying-- "you can own" --and these will probably be the most extraordinary airplanes owned in the world by a private preson or "non-goverment" . at least that's what i think they are saying.

My guess is that these will be very limited flyers. Look at the cost of fielding a Super Sabre - I think I was told about $1000 per hour with fuel - these will make that number look paltry IMHO.

Not as bad as flying the Vulcan, but not by much. $$$$$$$$ to budget, that will be a short list of potential buyers.

Make that $5,000/hr for the Super Sabre. I believe the govt figures $20k/hr for direct operating costs of an F-15, so I would guess the SU-27 in private hands would be $8k

The SU-27 burns ~8000 gal/hr in full burner, so the cost-concious would be wise to do a lot more of just turnin' than turnin' & burnin'...

Wonder if it comes RVSM ready?
Would suck to be limited in Altitude although it could probably climb through the 40K ish upper limit and cruise there I bet.

Wonder how many airshows can afford to pay the costs associated with getting the jet there and back? I hope someone can, because I would love to see them fly!

FWIW, none of the US fighters are currently RVSM capable.

A T-33 burns $1100-$1200/hour of fuel at today's prices so an F-100 is much more than that...unless the F-100 guy is getting a super deal on his fuel price.
